Introduction to cancer screening

DESCRIPTION

This session will provide practice nurses with information on preventive health and national cancer screening programs to enable implementation of screening activities in their practice. Nurses will be updated on the renewal of the National Cervical Screening Program which commenced on December 1 2017.

This introductory education session is provided through the Practice Nurse Support Program (PNSP) supporting nurses new to general practice and is a recurring session.

AUDIENCE: Practice nurses participating in the PNSP and other nurses

  • National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, Cervical Screening Program and BreastScreen Queensland
  • outline of burden of disease, symptoms and facts on bowel, cervical and breast cancers in Queensland
  • role in cancer screening for the GP, general practice nurses and staff
  • changes in cervical screening process and establishment of a national register
